Interactions between enslaved people and students
The enslaved people on campus had various interactions with the student population. The majority these interactions documented stemmed from the duties enslaved people had on campus. Augustus Longstreet Hull notes some of the interactions between students and enslaved people on campus in Annals of Athens. For instance, the students nicknamed one enslaved man, Davy Hull, "doctor." There is also documentation of interactions between students and enslaved people which occurred off campus. Many of these instances, recorded in the Faculty Meeting Minutes, described violent alteractions. Other instances which were recorded included a student caught "calling to negro girls" and several students attending a "negro dance."
